5 Card Stud Poker
In 5 Card Stud, you may have anywhere from 2 to 8 players. Each player has the opportunity to play in the dealer's position. This position is indicated with a dealer button. The dealer button is a small circular disk that gets passed clockwise after the conclusion of each hand.
Ante
Before any cards are dealt, everyone must post an ante. The ante is usually predetermined or half the amount of the minimum stake.
Third Street
Everyone is dealt one cards face down and one card face up. Betting begins with the player who has the lowest card. If there is a tie, then the player with the lower suit will start the betting. This player may check or bet. (Note: In some variation of the game, the weakest card must post a mandatory bet. This bet is usually half the amount of the minimum stake or they have the option of raising to the full stake.) If a check is called, then each subsequent player may check or raise. If a player bets, then each subsequent player may call, raise, or fold.
Fourth Street
A fourth card is dealt face up. This time, the player with the highest hand starts the round of betting.
Fifth Street
The Fifth, and final, card is dealt face up. The player with the highest hand starts the round of betting.
The Showdown
The player with the highest five card poker hand wins the pot. In the event of a tie, the pot is split evenly between the winners.
